David Weeks Studio
David Weeks Studio is a New York City-based interdisciplinary design practice that conceives and produces elegant, expressive furniture, lighting, and sculptural objects, and collaborates on custom commissions and experimental projects in varied mediums.
The studio is a study in contradictions. Its work is industrial in inspiration yet refined in execution, a by product of both mechanization and hand craftsmanship. There’s a bit of sly humor in everything created, yet forms are grounded in serious design. Whether devising one-off objects or custom-made pieces from an evolving product line, all are lavished with the same obsessive attention to detail. This melding of opposites reflects founder David Weeks’s multidisciplinary background and genre-bending sensibility: Schooled as a painter, trained as a sculptor and jewelry-maker, he approaches the design process as a thinker/tinkerer, teasing out concepts via sketches, model making, and hands-on prototyping. The result: streamlined forms—often distinguished by super-subtle curves—whose spareness belies the laborious finessing that went into them.
